Top 10 Best Anime Eyebrows of Summer 2018: The Most Important Seasonal Round-Up There Is!

I’ve talked about my love for anime eyebrows before, but in case you didn’t see that, let me reiterate: I love me a good anime eyebrow. If they’re thick, scraggly, or just generally super expressive, then I’m in love. So many anime eyebrows seem little more than a simple line drawn onto a face with little thought…so whenever there’s an eyebrow that clearly has some LOVE etched into it, I can’t help but take notice.

Now, I meant to make one of these lists for the Spring 2018 season, but alas. My blogging has been very inconsistent in the past few months. It’s a shame, because Remy Fool gave me a lot of good nominations for Spring 2018 Best Eyebrows, too! I just didn’t get around to making the post, and by the time I had time, the season was long past.

Please respect that the title of Ultimate Eyebrow Queen will forever belong to Tsumugi Kotobuki, regardless of this listicle’s results.

But fear not, good followers. I have not forsaken the eyebrow countdown. This season, I’m back, and I actually watched a decent amount of series so that I could gather adequate eyebrow data for this list. Let’s start this list! Segway!!

#10: Ayano Hanesaki – Hanebado!

Oh, Hanebado! You were almost my seasonal favorite, thanks to your beautiful art and excellent sound design…but you got so goddamn ridiculous that I had to drop you. Sorry, badminton babes. But! I will give Ayano a mention on this list, simply because she had some RIDICULOUS evil faces going on, and the eyebrows really help bring the spooky faces to life. They’re not the thickest brows, and might seem pretty basic, but I do believe they’re the perfect topping to these crazy eye sandwiches. (Good metaphor, right?)

#9: Maeda – Asobi Asobase

He shoots lasers from his butt, and he has some unsettling, oftentimes unmoving eyebrows. It’s Maeda, the creepy butler from Asobi Asobase! There’s something about the brows here that really add to his overall strangeness…though, admittedly, they do leave a bit to be desired. Perhaps they would benefit from some more scruff?

#8: Fat Cell – Cells At Work!

So, I was apparently the only person who didn’t watch Cells At Work, but! I did see…a picture of some people in it. Okay, so I just looked up the characters on MyAnimeList and scanned the thumbnails to see if anyone had nice eyebrows. What can I say, I needed to find another set of brows to get to ten, sue me!

Anyways, I do appreciate the expressiveness shown here. Love me a good angry pair, especially when they do that off-kilter thing. And that slight scraggle at the ends? Heaven!

Asobi Asobase teacher

#7: Chisato Higuchi – Asobi Asobase

These ones…well, they’re not exactly the eyebrows I tend to look for in a two-dimensional woman. Still, I feel that they’re worth noting, simply for their unconventional look.

There’s something about these brows that really fit our nervous teacher’s personality. Those multi-layered brows say so much every time they appear on screen. Perhaps, with the help of a good eyebrow pencil, she could blend these scraggles into the perfect Tsumugi eyebrows. Until then, she must remain at a relatively low ranking.

Yukio Tanegawa

#6: Yukio Tanegawa – Middle Manager Tonegawa

Did anyone watch this? No? Not even hardcore Kaiji fans? Yeah, that’s what I figured. Still, I have to give it props for keeping the eyebrow thickness quality consistent in this spin-off…even if the quality of the spin-off itself didn’t quite match up to Kaiji.

shorter bananafish

#5: Shorter Wong – Bananafish

A beautiful brow is not just about its arch, thickness, breadth, or hue. No, sometimes a quality brow just needs the right decoration, and my man Shorter knows what’s up. He highlights his otherwise average eyebrows with a piercing, elevating him to Great Eyebrow status. The only thing that would have made them better? If he dyed them purple like his mohawk.

#4: Yaya Fushiuro – Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs

By now, you may have realized that I like an eyebrow with a bit of meat to ’em. Hair meat, that is. (I’m on fire with my totally accurate metaphors today!) But I might not have mentioned that I absolutely love it when the eyebrows are but mere husky stumps above the eyeballs. Maybe that description didn’t sound that appealing, but bear with me here.

There’s something so charming about tiny brows like these, and they also have a sort of otherworldly quality to them – which fits, because Yaya is a nekomata, so she’s not exactly from the human realm! I couldn’t ignore such a great pair of pointed brows.

Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou#3: Nishiki – Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou

Thank you Cactus Matt for submitting this nomination! I did not watch this show, so I would have otherwise missed these bushy beauts. THESE are exactly the eyebrows I crave. They harken back to the glories of the uncontested eyebrow queen, Tsumugi Kotobuki. I truly wish that every anime girl had thick, triangular beasts like these. There’s just so much more to love than the average brow…

Unfortunately, I was informed that Nishiki is NOT a main character, which is a shame, because I would truly watch an entire show just for some good anime girl brows. Do I have a problem?

#2: Takashi Ryuuzouji – Planet With

NOW THESE BABIES ARE EXTREME! Planet With was an absolute treat to watch week to week, and thank goodness it delivered on both the good plot AND good eyebrow fronts. I mean, geez, where do I even start with these bad boys?  The pink. The thickness. The lightning bolt pattern. How does a growing pattern like that even form?

These eyebrows let you know right off the bat that this man means BUSINESS, and they also let you know that’s he probably a bad dude. Who needs characterization when the brows say it all, am I right? (Just kidding, Planet With gave him actual character traits, I’m just saying…they coulda left it up to the brows!)

#1: Eren Yeager – Attack on Titan 3

Attack on Titan is back, babyyyy, which means all the eyebrows are, too. Every single person on this show has some THICK brows. Eren, of course, had to win this one, because look at those bad boys. Like, if they were a font, they would be BOLD! You know what I’m saying?

Out of the entire cast, I think that his eyebrows are probably one of the most…subdued. Though everyone has big boys up there, I don’t like them to be TOO crazy, which is why Eren gets the win. Regardless of how you feel about Attack on Titan, you have to admit that these babies are a thing of beauty. Thank you, Anime Eyebrow Gods, for blessing us with Eren Yeager.

Of course, this list would not be complete without some honorable mentions. But instead of having eyebrow honorable mentions, I’ve decided to give a shout-out to two characters who had excellent eyeLASHES instead.

revue starlight giraffe.jpg

The Giraffe – Revue Starlight

No eyebrows on the giraffe, unfortunately, but DAMN are those some luscious, voluminous eyelashes. I need to watch this show. The fact that there’s a giraffe at all is literally all I need to know about it.

asobi asobase occult club.jpg

Oka – Asobi Asobase

I MEAN, LOOK AT THOSE!!! I have never seen anything quite like them. Not only are they Best Eyelashes, but this occult club weirdo might also be, dare I say it, Best Girl.

So what do you think, y’all? Did I miss any great eyebrows? The answer is probably yes, so please, tell me your nominations! And, if you have any eyebrows you love that weren’t from this season, feel free to share those, too. I love a good pair of retro anime eyebrows!
